R v Reed [1982] 1 WLR 1127
Court: Court of Appeal (Criminal Division)
Facts: D intended to frustrate a conspiracy plan by warning potential victims before it could be completed.
Held: Conviction quashed. The court found that intending to frustrate the conspiracy was not equivalent to participating in it. D was not guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, even though he played his role by making the bomb.
Key Judicial Statement: Lord Justice Stuart-Smith observed, "Intending to thwart a conspiracy does not equate to involvement in it, and thus cannot sustain a conspiracy conviction."
