R v Jones [1990] 1 WLR 1353

Court: Court of Appeal (Criminal Division)

Facts: D prepared to murder V by sawing off the end of a shotgun. D brandished a shotgun at C but did not remove the safety catch or pull the trigger before C managed to escape. D was charged with attempted murder.

Key Judicial Statement: Lord Justice Dillon remarked, "For an attempt to murder, the actions must be so close to the completed crime that they manifest a clear intent to kill."
